A young boy relates his adventures during the year he spends living alone in the Catskill Mountains; including his struggle for survival, his dependence on nature, his animal friends, and his realization that he needs human companionship. A young boy runs away from home to live in the wild on what used to be his grandfather's farm. Sam Gribley is terribly unhappy living in New York City with his family, so he runs away to the Catskill Mountains to live in the woods-all by himself.
